The Green Party and LGBTQIA+ Rights

Huffington Post By Michael Dennis May 17, 2016 Today the world celebrates International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOT). This “global celebration of sexual and gender diversities,” provides us a space to recognize the struggle against violence and discrimination of LGBTI persons worldwide. I take that opportunity to reflect on the contributions that the Green Party has made to LGBTI persons and call upon my party to challenge itself in helping advance justice for this community. As far as political parties, the Green Party has been ahead of the curve regarding including LGBTQIA+ persons in our policies and values….

Greens can’t abandon our battleground

Socialist Worker By Asher Platts February 24, 2016 Asher Platts, a Green Party candidate for state Senate in Maine in 2012 and 2014, provides this response to the call for Greens to participate in the Democratic primaries in support of Bernie Sanders–and makes the case for what the left should be doing instead. Here’s a Way to Hold Wall Street Accountable

Truthdig By Margaret Flowers and Jill Stein February 13, 2016 The year 2016 is off to a rocky start for the stock market, not just in the United States but also globally. Many economists are predicting a financial crash this year or next. Stocks are overvalued without a foundation to hold them up, production is down and debt is high. Financial fraud is at the heart of the…

We have been digging and pumping up oil, gas and coal and burning it for decades. Now the fossil frontier is currently pushing us into extreme extraction such as fracking, tar sands, Arctic drilling, etc. that establishes us even further as a fossil fuel addicted society. This needs to stop before it is…

Why Socialists Can’t Wait for Bernie to Lose

How the biggest socialist candidacy in a century is dividing an already divided movement. Politico By Bill Scher February 4, 2016 Perhaps the most astonishing aspect of the 2016 presidential race is that Bernie Sanders, somehow, has made “socialism” a safe word in American politics. Nearly 100 years ago Socialist presidential candidate Eugene Debs had to campaign from prison; today, Sanders campaigns on socialism in broad daylight. For eight years, Democrats winced when Republicans hurled the “socialist” slur at President Barack Obama; now, 43 percent of likely Iowa Democratic caucus participants, many inspired by Sanders, embrace the label. But the…
