Occupy Earth Day

Occupy Earth Day An Expose of the Corporate Propaganda Systems that Undermine Systemic Change Activism April 18, 2012 | corporations.org Mike Ewall is founder and director of Energy Justice Network www.energyjustice.net This Earth Day, like so many others, we’ll be invited to pick up litter, plant trees, be reminded to recycle, and countless other personal habits we can adopt to save the earth. Corporations pitching “green” products will bust out their “Lorax-approved” logos and encourage our “green” consumption. This will be the first Earth Day since the Occupy Wall Street movement took form. How can we Occupy Earth Day – or as our…

Solve climate crisis to make economy humane

Syracuse Post Standard April 20, 2012 Despite what the junk science funded by the Koch brothers tells Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, the scientific consensus on climate change is that humans are causing it. No matter how loud the yelling in the right-wing media echo chamber, if we don’t stop releasing heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels by the end of this decade, we are in for a world of pain. The good news is that once we accept that climate change is really happening, we can take action to stop it. Lasting solutions to the climate crisis…

The Climate of Fear

by Jennifer Sullivan It’s never enough. The greed. The downplaying. The usual. Once again the climate of fear that the Twin Powers of Politics have created to play their on going “good cop bad cop” routine has reared it’s ugly head. Trayvon Martin shot in cold blood. Part of the reason that the Green Party exists is to decry this ongoing injustice! The story isn’t new. It goes back to when people were purchased, transported & sold out of Africa. The article was riddled with distortions and misinformation, and overall was very poor research. As the NEJM is a peer reviewed journal and has a significant letters section, I wrote a letter pointing out some of the errors committed by the authors, and a longer piece containing a comprehensive critique. The NEJM demands that letters to the journal contain material that…

AB1413 “Gut and Amend” Abuse Would Gut Voter Voice

by Michael Feinstein Fox and Hounds Monday, January 23rd, 2012 A bill about to be passed by the Legislature – AB 1413 – would rob us of our right to vote for write-in candidates, a right we’ve enjoyed and exercised since California statehood in 1850. With such a major change, one would assume it’s imminent passage is the culmination of a long public process, where the proposed change has been publicly vetted, with broad participation by civic and good government groups in debates, public forums, op/eds and talk shows. But AB1413 hasn’t gone through such a process. Instead it’s come…
