WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Green Party of the United States formally recognizes two candidates for the 2016 Green presidential nomination, in accordance with party rules: Jill Stein and William Kreml. Both candidates have fulfilled all the requirements for official recognition, qualifying their campaigns for access to party resources.
The nominee will be chosen at the 2016 Green Party Presidential Nomination Convention in Houston, Texas, August 4-7, 2016 ( http://www.gp.org/pnc-2016 ). The nomination will take place on Saturday, August 6.
Delegates from state Green Parties across the U.S. will participate in the nomination. The delegates are chosen at party primaries, caucuses, and conventions, according to each state party’s rules.
Along with the nomination, the Green convention will feature panels, workshops, plenary sessions of the Green National Committee, and other events. Many of these events will be open to the media and public.
The party will hold press conferences featuring Green candidates, especially those running for the presidential nomination and for public office in Texas. Members of the media may register for credentials here ( http://www.gp.org/media-credentials ) as well as on site during the convention.

About the candidates:
WILLIAM KREML is Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at the University of South Carolina and the author of nine books on political theory, American government, and constitutional law. His latest work is “The Bias of Temperament in American Politics” (2014). Dr. Kreml ran for president in the New Hampshire and other primaries in 1984, and in the 1992 South Carolina primary. He competed in the South Carolina Democratic Caucuses in 2000, running on the issue of campaign finance reform and engaging in civil disobedience by violating F.E.C. guidelines.

JILL STEIN is a physician practicing Internal Medicine. She has served on the board of Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility and helped found the Massachusetts Coalition for Healthy Communities. She also serves on the board of MassVoters for Fair Elections. Dr. Stein ran as a Green candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002 and 2010. She was elected to a Lexington (Massachusetts) Town Meeting seat in 2005 and 2008. Dr. Stein was the Green Party’s 2012 presidential nominee. (Bio: http://www.jill2016.com/about)

In the 2012 election, the Green Party had presidential ballot lines in 37 states including the District of Columbia, reaching 82% of voters. The Green Party is currently on the ballot in 21 states. The party is aiming for ballot lines in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
